Idaho retail businesses

Business insurance for retail stores and showrooms

A store depends on its location, inventory, equipment, people, and ability to reopen after a loss. Tell us what customers buy, what you keep on site, and whether you deliver, install, rent, repair, or sell online.

Start with the store

List what is at risk and what keeps sales moving

A quote should account for customer traffic, products, leased or owned space, tenant improvements, inventory, equipment, delivery, business income, employees, and online systems. A BOP may package common property and liability coverage for an eligible business, but it is not a universal answer.

Common retail changes

What is different from an ordinary storefront?

  • Customers shop in a store, showroom, market, boutique, counter, or rental space.
  • Inventory changes by season or includes customer property, rentals, high-value items, or goods in storage.
  • The business delivers, installs, repairs, alters, rents, or picks up products.
  • A lease asks for property, liability, additional-insured status, or specific limits.
  • Point-of-sale, online ordering, payment, loyalty, or customer-account systems are essential.
  • A loss at the location could stop sales while rent, payroll, or other expenses continue.

Describe what you sell and how it reaches customers

A short operations description is more useful than choosing every policy name yourself.

What to have ready

Use current locations and realistic high values

  • Every store, showroom, warehouse, office, or storage location and whether it is owned or leased.
  • Estimated inventory, furniture, fixtures, equipment, signs, improvements, and seasonal high values.
  • Sales, payroll, employee duties, delivery or installation work, and a rough reopening timeline.
  • Current policies, lease requirements, loss history, and any lender or landlord request.
  • A plain description of online sales, payments, customer data, rentals, repairs, and property away from the store.

Coverage questions to separate

A package policy does not answer everything

  • General liability and commercial property solve different problems even when they are packaged in a BOP.
  • Business income usually depends on a covered cause of loss and selected terms; it is not protection against an ordinary sales decline.
  • Property in transit, at events, in storage, or at a customer site may need inland marine or another form.
  • Delivery vehicles, employees, cyber incidents, crime, equipment breakdown, umbrella, and employment practices require separate questions.
